My Sister’s Divorce

Recently, we saw “Rachel’s Wedding” at a movie night with folks from the Refuge. Afterwords, we has an open discussion about the film and implications about family. It was a very interesting evening.

Now we are dealing with my sister’s divorce and all of the angles pertaining to such.We both love my sister and love having her live with us. It is almost like being kids again! My head and heart are spinning now wishing there was an easier solution. It’s about money, power and control; the lawyers are right in the middle of the muck sucking up cash as it is drawn from all.

I am no old lady!

On Sunday, we went to have a breakfast dinner with our friends whom averaged at about 70 yrs of age. The room was full and lots of coversations about everything but their health issues. I sat next to a lady married 54 yrs and still working at age 73 yrs.
” I quit coloring my hair recently; I just let it go natural gray,” she said. The she looked across the table and asked the lady we brought, Margo, ” How old are you sweetie, since I just told you my age?”
Margo, a bright woman of some years and very bright and agile casually commented, “well I am 93.”
The 73 yr old lady looked a little shook-en up and piped off, “it is so nice that you get around so nicely.”  Margo had that look that had no words, as if to say, I am 20 yrs your senior and I can still out think you!

Community: what it means to me

As I think about this neo-nefarious word, community, what does it mean to me, or what should it mean to me?  I remember that in the early  70′s,  community meant a good place to smoke dope! ( dude! there is a far-out place behind the movie theater and no narks)  But I also remember that in that same period of time as a new born-again-ex Mormon-dysfunctional family survivor-18yr old-new Christian I belonged to BASIC, Brothers and Sisters In Christ.  It was the closest thing to community I have ever experienced. Keep in mind that I had not learned any of this in my family of origin. Being mostly young adults, we met some where in town at a certain time usually at a park.  There was no organized leadership that I knew about but just a bunch of kids trying to figure out this new life in Christ.  Yes, I am an old hippie that spent a lot of time in parks and on mountain tops.

This Morninn’

I woke up this mornin

sitting on the porch

with my dog and coffee to be

birds singing non stop

like  chatter in Starbucks

semi warm and absense of sunshine

makes the day melancholy for me

It happens to be

that I love this day

the warmth of friendship

makes it all worthwhile

it happens to be

that I love this day

the glow of  His Love

makes it all worthwhile

eggs sizzlin in a hot grill

toast burning to a crisp i like

Quips & Quotes

“It is only by following your deepest instinct that you can lead a rich life, and if you let your fear of consequence prevent you from following your deepest instinct, then your life will be safe, expedient and thin.”
